Welcome back to Tuesday Tasting! This week, we’re playing with fire (again) and cracking openGolden Monkey fromVictory Brewing Company—a Belgian-style tripel with mystic powers, 9.5% ABV, and a legendary reputation for catching drinkers off guard. One minute you're sipping citrus and clove, the next you’re texting your ex and looking for pizza rolls.
Victory Brewing Company started with a school bus friendship in 1973 and grew into one of the most respected breweries in the U.S. Founded by Bill Covaleski and Ron Barchet in Downingtown, PA, Victory’s been churning out award-winning beer since 1996. Known for innovative styles and crowd favorites like HopDevil, Prima Pils, and the entire Monkey family, they’ve helped shape the East Coast craft scene for nearly three decades.
Pours: Clear golden with a fluffy white head—looks innocent enough. Don't be fooled.
Nose: Banana and clove lead the way, courtesy of the Belgian yeast. Notes of orange, spice, and a hint of that “you’re gonna feel this later” sweetness.
Flavor: A well-balanced mix of fruity esters, soft malt, subtle citrus, and earthy hops. It’s complex but dangerously drinkable.
Mouthfeel: Smooth, slightly oily, medium-bodied. Finish is semi-dry, but your memory of the night may not be.
Golden Monkey is a stealth bomber of a beer. At 9.5% ABV, it drinks like a golden ale but hits like a Belgian freight train. There’s a reason seasoned drinkers say “Respect the Monkey.” And if they don’t, they should.
Whether you’re pairing it with spicy food, a quiet night in, or your third round of regrettable karaoke, just know you’ve been warned. And for the love of hops—pace yourself.
Cheers to the Monkey. May it treat you kindly. 🍻
