If spring had a flavor, it’d taste a lot like Blossom. This week’s Tasting Tuesday pick is a citrus-forward wheat ale from Cincinnati’s own Rhinegeist Brewery — and it’s basically sunshine in a pint glass.

Let’s crack it open.

The Beer: Blossom

  • Style: Wheat Ale with Citrus Peel

  • ABV: 5.2%

  • Availability: Seasonal

  • Tasting Notes:
Bright gold pour with a hint of haze and a thick, fluffy head. Citrus aromas (lemon and orange), crisp cereal grain, and just a touch of spice. Medium body, smooth finish, and a little wheaty sweetness to round it all out.

Style Spotlight: Wheat Ales

Wheat beers have been around since… well, beer. What makes them different? The high wheat content gives them a smooth, pillowy mouthfeel and a slightly sweet grainy backbone that plays really nicely with fruits and spices. Think Belgian witbiers and Hefeweizens, but Blossom takes it into modern territory.

Why It Works

Blossom doesn't overload you with sugary citrus or cloying sweetness. By using just the citrus peel (not the whole fruit), you get a clean, vibrant lemon-orange profile without the extra acidity. There’s even a dash of coriander for complexity — subtle, but noticeable enough to elevate the experience.

This is what we’d call a “lawnmower beer,” but dressed up for brunch.

First Impressions

Aroma: Zesty lemon, orange zest, grainy wheat, with a whisper of spice
Appearance: Bright gold, slightly hazy, thick white foam
Taste: Clean citrus front, soft wheat body, and just enough bitterness to keep it refreshing
Mouthfeel: Smooth, medium-bodied, super crushable

Brewer’s Note: The Rhinegeist Backstory

Rhinegeist’s journey from coffee shop brainstorms to Midwest beer powerhouse is full of grit, grind, and a whole lot of hops. Founded in 2013 by Bob Bonder and Bryant Goulding, this Cincinnati-based brewery is known for blending West Coast beer flair with Midwestern hospitality. Blossom is a perfect reflection of that — classic wheat character layered with bold, sunny flavors.

Final Sip

Blossom is a seasonal wheat ale that brings bright citrus, smooth wheat, and a splash of spring sunshine. Whether you’re sipping on a sunny patio or just dreaming of warmer days, this one’s worth stocking up on while it lasts.

Would we drink it again? Absolutely.
Would we recommend it? Only if you like happiness.
